February 8th, 2011
I brought my 1999 VW Passat to Curry’s Auto Repair at Gainesville store. I dropped it off at the night drop off to replace the clutch. The car was working fine except the clutch. I was quoted to fix the clutch would cost $2100 dollars. I was also told that my VW needed to have the Turbo Replaced at the sum of another $2200 dollars. I paid $125 charge for Curry’s to look at the car. When I came to move the car the car would not even start. The car started fine the night before.
I had to have the vehicle towed to another shop with cheaper prices. The first thing we had done was to recharge the battery. I noticed that the stereo did not work now. The car was giving warning lights now the check engine light is on along with the ABS light and a flashing brake light. This was not occurring when I brought the car into your shop.
Once we got the car started it idled fine but soon as you pressed the accelerator it would rev up to 2000 rpm and drop down to 800 rpm and the car would stall. Starting the car again and letting it run for about 10 minutes. I then held my foot on the accelerator at a constant level and it would rev to 2000 rpm and drop to 900 rpm and then rev back up to 2000 rpm and drop back to 900 rpm continuously. I brought my car back to Curry’s and they said it is a bad fuel body they needed to replace that for $2500 dollars.
I paid the $69 dollar service charge. I tried starting the car and my battery was dead again. This is a brand new Bosch battery that I bought in February. I took the battery back to Pepboys where I purchased the battery several months earlier and they said that something shorted the battery. They tested the battery and told me that the battery was damaged somehow.
Now I am frustrated because these problems had not occurred till after I brought my VW to Curry’s Auto repair shop to fix a clutch. I was told that these problems must have been occurring before I brought the car in which was not the case. I am displeased that the mechanic was rude to me saying that this is my fault. I did not ask for any other diagnostics on my car I asked to have my clutch fixed. I am letting you know that I will be posting this up on all the local internet sites for the Washington D.C. Metro area. The only good thing I was pleased with was Chris Curry’s Service Manager was proffesional otherwise the mechanic that looked at my car was not professional.
