Common Repairs on the BMW 5 Series - F10/F11/F07/F18 Sixth Generation

First released in model year 2010, the latest models of the sixth generation BMW F-10 Five-Series include the Sedan, xDrive and Wagon/Touring variations as well as some hybrids and a high-performance M-5. At the time these were the most technologically-advanced Bimmers to ever hit the luxury car market. But with so many bells and whistles, there are bound to be a few bugs or common problems which are just now becoming evident. Here is a list of some of the known problems inherent in some models of the BMW F-10 5-series:

Timing Chain and Engine Issues: Certain models equipped with the N47 diesel engine have experienced timing chain problems, including premature wear or failure. This can result in engine damage and potentially costly repairs. It's important to note that not all engines are affected, and BMW has extended warranty coverage or initiated recalls to address these issues in some cases.

Fuel injectors and High-Pressure Fuel Pumps: Some owners have reported issues with fuel injectors and high-pressure fuel pumps, particularly in the turbocharged models. This can result in misfires, rough idling or loss of power. Your local BMW service center can offer repair solutions for this problem.

Throttle Response/Hesitation: Some drivers have complained of a lag, or hesitation when they press the gas pedal and the engine does not respond. They have to press the pedal hard before the car moves, and it usually surges forward from a stop.

Battery Issues for Short Trips: Some F-10 models will lose their battery power during short trips and require the owner to jump-start the vehicle.
