Took my 2003 X5 to Barry's with an inoperable auxiliary fan and broken door handle interior mechanism. Their diagnosis determined the auxiliary fan and air conditioning compressor need replacing (my belief is the AC compressor is still good) as well as the broken door handle interior mechanism. Estimate was $3,200 and I said no. When I picked up the car I was charged for two hours of diagnostics at a cost of $229. I protested the cost primarily because I don't believe it took two hours to diagnose. Barry informed me has has a $10,000 piece of diagnostic equipment that must be paid for. Fixed the door myself yesterday with a $50 brand new part (not OEM). Bought the auxiliary fan for $258 and will replace this weekend. My guess is once the auxiliary fan is replaced the air conditioning will work without replacing the compressor. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know if they do good work or not but I do know their attitude toward earning my business did not seem important to them
