The National Highway Transportation Administration has issued a recall of approximately 223 BMW i8 models due to a possible fuel leak, which may cause a fire.

Which BMW models are affected by the recall?

2014 BMW i8 models manufactured from May 16, 2014 – September 16, 2014.

What causes the possible fuel leak?

A bolt that is used to secure the ground cable from the chassis structure to the fuel tank may have been welded inadequately, thus causing gas to leak, and a potential risk of fire.

Are there any known accidents attributed to the defect?

At this time, BMW is not aware of any accidents or injuries due to the related problem.

What do I do if my car is one of those affected?

BMW started notifying all owners affected by the recall in November 2014. BMW will replace the fuel tank, free of charge.
