Today, BMW has announced a recall on their 2008-2010 5-Series vehicles due to a rear light failure.
Which BMW models are affected by the recall?
Model year 2008-2010 528i, 535i, 550i, and M5 passenger cars manufactured from March 1, 2007, through December 31, 2009.
What causes the rear light failure?
Increased electrical resistance can damage the connections to the lights, resulting in loss of tail, brake, turn-signal and/or reverse lights. This can increase the risk of a possible crash.
Are there any known accidents attributed to the defect?
At this time, no known accidents have been reported by BMW attributing to the defect.
What do I do if my car is one of those affected?
BMW will be notifying all owners affected by the recall in October 2013 and will replace the part of the rear lamp connections at no charge.
